StarWalls has no user accounts and asks for no personal details. Two things do leave your device: anonymous, cookie-free analytics, and — only if you turn on daily notifications — a notification token for your app install.
This app uses Umami Analytics — a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics tool. Umami collects: page views, referrer, browser type, OS, device type, and country (derived from IP — not stored). No cookies, no cross-site tracking, and nothing that identifies you personally.
Daily notifications are optional and off by default. If you tap to enable them and grant notification permission, your browser generates a Web Push subscription — a random endpoint URL issued by your browser vendor's push service, plus two keys your browser creates so that only it can decrypt what we send.
Requests to this app are handled by its hosting provider, which processes IP addresses transiently to serve traffic and to rate-limit abuse of the notification sign-up endpoint. These are not written to a durable log of ours and are not linked to any person.
Favorites, settings and cached photos are stored locally in your browser or app storage and are never uploaded. Exporting your favorites writes a file that only you receive. Clearing site data or uninstalling the app removes all of it.
There is no login, no sign-up, no email collection, and no payments. Nothing you do in the app is tied to an identity.
This app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Requests to this app may result in calls to NASA's APIs, and photos whose copyright is retained by their photographer are loaded directly from NASA's servers to your device. NASA's privacy policy applies to those interactions.
No advertising networks, no social tracking pixels, no third-party cookies. The only third-party services involved are Umami for analytics, the push service your own browser uses to deliver notifications you opted into, and the hosting provider that serves the app.
Umami analytics data is aggregated and anonymous; individual page view records are not attributed to any person. A push subscription is stored only while notifications stay enabled on your device, and is deleted as soon as delivery to it fails as expired.
There is no account and no personal profile to request or delete. To opt out of analytics, use a content blocker. To withdraw the notification subscription, turn notifications off as described above. For anything else, email the address below.
StarWalls is an independent personal project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NASA or any other government agency. The NASA insignia, logo and seal are not used anywhere in this app, and the NASA name and marks belong to NASA.
